The authors report on the recent development of a 2 × 2 RF MEMS switch matrix for high power applications. The RF design and modelling of the switch matrix using full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations are described. The method of fabrication and experimental setup are presented. Results for the recorded RF performance for on and off states are presented. Power handling characteristics of the switch are also examined. Some challenging issues for the development of this type of device are addressed.
