Planar electron optical systems were investigated using computer simulation in three dimension (3D). Split ring, microstrip and horizontal bar planar deflectors were investigated for deflecting electrons from a field emitter array. It was show that the field generated by a planar system is a fringing field hence the electron optical property of these systems cannot match the properties of the coventional systems.
