Vision
The Oxford Stem Cell Institute comprises over 40 laboratories from across Oxford with the shared long-term aim of using their combined scientific and clinical expertise to promote stem cell therapies for patient benefit.
Our vision recognizes that traditional barriers between diseases need to be overcome to facilitate synergistic and innovative research in which advances made in understanding one disease can be applied to others.
The scientific and clinical expertise in Oxford heart disease, neurodegeneration including Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s, cancer, diabetes, tissue engineering, and musculoskeletal diseases such as osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Our ambition is to harness the breadth of research across Oxford, and through our national and international partners,, to promote stem cell research and therapies, to generate disease models for drug discovery and to facilitate our understanding of disease progression, and to advance our ability to monitor and control disease onset and progression.
We believe that a cross-disciplinary approach that coordinates and integrates our breadth and depth of expertise will ultimately lead to the translation of stem cell research into effective therapies designed to tackle the major diseases of the 21st century.
