Based on the strategy of self-reproduction of chirality, a practical enantiospecific conversion of (S)-alanine to (R)-α-methyl phenylalanine via the N-pivaloyl 1,3-oxazolidin-5-one derived from ferrocene carboxaldehyde and sodium alaninate is described. © 1995.
