Applications of membrane technology in pharmaceutical industry

Membrane technology has been widely used in upstream and downstream processes of modern biopharmaceutical production. Advances in membrane technology have been accelerated in the course to meet the challenges posed in the rapid development of modern biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. This article reviews recent developments and trends in microfiltration, ultrafiltration, virus filtration, membrane bioreactor (MBR) and membrane chromatography, with relation to their applications in pharmaceutics production.
